Now that you’ve chosen your Realtor (we’re truly honored you selected us!) and have partnered with your preferred lender, it’s time to begin the exciting journey toward finding your perfect home. Before we start touring, there are a few essential steps to complete that will help us all stay organized and make your experience as smooth and successful as possible. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you through every step and answer any questions along the way!
✅ Your Buyer Checklist
Here’s what we need you to work through next:
- Secure Your Pre-Approval Letter
If you haven’t already, connect with your lender and get pre-approved. (See Step 2: Choose a Lender for our trusted lender recommendations.) - Sign Buyer Documents
These include the Buyer Agency Disclosure and Buyer Agency Agreement, which officially allow us to represent you and protect your interests during the buying process. - Review Estimated Closing Costs
We’ll go over these together so you know what to expect and feel financially prepared. - Select a Closing Company
We’ll provide recommendations for reliable title companies—we especially recommend Green Title for their excellent service and local expertise. - Choose a Home Inspector
We’ll share our list of trusted professionals who will thoroughly evaluate the home before you finalize your purchase. - Update Your Social Media Privacy Settings
Adjust your Facebook, LinkedIn, and other accounts to the highest privacy level while still allowing new friend requests. Avoid posting anything about your home search—keeping your information off social media helps protect your negotiating position. - Keep Us in the Loop with Your Lender
Let us know how your mortgage application is progressing so we can coordinate timelines and communication with all parties. - Avoid Major Financial Changes
Don’t open new credit cards, take out loans, or make large purchases. Stay current on all payments, including your rent or current mortgage, and maintain financial stability until after closing. - Begin Gathering Funds
Start assembling your down payment and estimated closing costs now to avoid delays later in the process.
This homework may seem like a lot, but it sets the foundation for a seamless and confident home buying experience. You’ve got a team behind you every step of the way—let’s keep moving forward!
